Philosophy: Responsible and Luxury
Museum Hotel is one of the pioneers of the responsible tourism concept in Cappadocia and Turkey. It synthesizes this concept with luxury service. In addition to the meticulous, protective, and award-winning restoration works that have set an example for the Cappadocia region, Museum Hotel is a unique luxury hotel with its ongoing sustainability practices, such as the maintenance of local traditions, the ecological garden, and creating a natural life and energy.
TRANSFORMATION AND RESTORATION
Since 1998, dozens of historical caves, stone houses, and buildings that were about to disappear have been brought back to life through meticulous and detailed restoration work. In 2013, Museum Hotel was recognized for its work when it was awarded the Best Hotel Restoration in Turkey by the International Hotel Awards.
KEEPING “THE LOCAL” ALIVE
The soul of Museum Hotel is Cappadocia and all the things that comprise Cappadocia’s existence. Keeping “the local” alive constitutes the basic philosophy of Museum Hotel. Prioritizing local farmers and producers in our kitchen, sourcing all handicrafts used in our hotel from local artists, using local craftsmen in all our restoration works, and the vast majority of our hotel employees being local people are just a few good examples of our philosophy.
SUSTAINED TRADITIONS
Modern-day Cappadocians have inherited the traditions of dozens of different civilizations that inhabited the unique region of Cappadocia over thousands of years. Our local traditions add a richness to Cappadocia through lifestyle, architecture, and food and beverage, as well as with Museum Hotel’s accommodation experience. We ensure that many near-forgotten traditions are kept alive.
FARM TO TABLE
Located in the most beautiful valleys of Cappadocia, the eco-gardens of Museum Hotel, which are approximately 200 acres in size, grow many agricultural products needed by Museum Hotel’s kitchen, such as grapes, almonds, walnuts, potatoes, celery, and fresh spices. Museum Hotel also produces natural honey and eggs.
THE LIVING MUSEUM
Operating since 2003, Museum Hotel, the world's first museum concept hotel, displays hundreds of priceless historical artifacts from the Hittite, Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. Registered in the Nevşehir Museum, these can be found in all the hotel rooms, public areas, cave tunnels, and in the food and beverage areas. Museum Hotel offers Cappadocian culture, architecture, traditions, lifestyle, historical Cappadocian cuisine, and even the near-forgotten local clothing style so that guests enjoy this unique "living museum" concept.
ENERGY AND WATER
Energy-efficient electronic devices and LED lighting products are used throughout Museum Hotel. In addition, policies are implemented within the hotel to encourage guests to save water, and the use of agricultural and landscape water is entirely carried out by drip irrigation methods that minimize water consumption.
NATURAL LIFE
Museum Hotel supports natural life as much as possible with a conservationist perspective that includes many policies and practices such as the protection of the turtle family in their own private garden (after the discovery of a turtle nest during restoration work), the feeding of pigeons (an important species in Cappadocia). Museum Hotel accepts pets and shares leftovers with creatures such as foxes and rabbits living in the valleys of Cappadocia.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Museum Hotel supports many community projects, particularly in the fields of education, restoration, and culture and the arts. The restorations of the Tokalı Church in Göreme Open Air Museum and the Forty Martyrs Church in Şahinefendi village were sponsored by the Museum Hotel.
